Tai Chi
Rooted from Chinese Medicine, thousands of years old, Tai Chi is a gentle and graceful form of exercise that consists of free-flowing movements while breathing deeply. These movements are performed in a slow, focused manner, which makes this form of exercise easier to follow. Each Tai Chi movement flows into the next without pause, ensuring that your body is in constant motion. Tai Chi is different from Yoga, but is another type of meditative movement.

Tai Chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on your joints and muscles, which makes it generally safe for all ages and fitness levels. It is inexpensive and does not require any special equipment. You can do Tai Chi anywhere and you can do it alone or in a group class. Tai Chi benefits can include relaxation, decreased stress levels, improved mood, aerobic capacity and muscle strength, memory and cognitive skills, balance, energy and stamina, enhanced quality of sleep, reduces the risk of falling and arthritis pain, and promotes weight loss without other changes to routine.
Yoga
Hatha (low energy)
Hatha embrasses many different styles of yoga. It can increase strength, balance, flexibilty, concentration, and improve bone density.
For mental health, it promotes calm and inner peace by helping the body center itself. Hatha uses a combination of breathing techniques with physical poses that are held for a period of time in the attempt to reach a meditative state.
It’s the most widely used yoga style and great for beginners to learn a gentle way of yoga by learning the foundations whilst cleansing and connecting the mind and body. All are welcome!
Vinyasa (moderate energy)
Like hatha, vinyasa combines many different styles of yoga, one being ashtanga yoga. Vinyasa can increase muscle strength, flexibility, cardiovascular function, respiratory capacity, and improved bone density.
For mental health, it can improve mood, decrease stress levels, and help with concentration.
It is also as widely used as hatha is, vinyasa unlike hatha, uses a prompter flow between poses, creating a harmonization of breath and movement. If you enjoy the movement between poses to flow at a faster pace, or want to try a faster paced class, this is the class for you! All are welcome.
Trauma Yoga (individual session)
Although some yoga studios provide trauma yoga in a group setting. Here, at Inspire Your Why, we believe it is best done privately, one on one with an instructor, and can be scheduled by yourself or with the help of your therapist.
Trauma yoga helps with self-regulation, increases the bodies awareness in a safe and controlled way in a safe, secure and predictable space. It addresses the nervous system disregulation, dissociation, and feelings of

disonnection from the body or surroundings. This yoga is not as focused on the poses as it is focused on the body’s reactions and feelings that come up when the poses are done.
Trauma yoga is unique, in that it is a safer and more accessible practice that is geared towards trauma survivors. Yoga can be harmful for someone who has experienced trauma. All yoga teachings should be trauma informed, in that instructors should always assume students may have some form of trauma. In trauma yoga, at Inspire Your Why, we don’t have to assume, we know. Instructors are trained to be conscious of students’ self-regulation and understand how trauma intersects with the practice of yoga.
Chair Yoga (low energy)
This is a gentle form of yoga. This is a great class for anyone who has low mobility and chronic pain like carpal tunnel syndrome, joint pain, osteoporosis, and multiple sclerosis. It’s modified poses from traditional yoga that can be done in a chair or assisted by a chair. It can improve your mobility and strength.
For mental health, chair yoga can improve your concentration and improve your mood while reducing stress.
A wonderful class for seniors and all are welcome!
